The West Wing: Vinick Strikes Back

I seem to get a lot of search engine traffic here from The West Wing queries, so here's another post.

I was very close to quitting the show due to Jimmy Smitt's Matt Santos character being the dullest candidate ever. What’s the thinking behind Leo as the vice-president character? Give me a break! If Santos winds the election, I'm quitting the show.

The only thing that's keeping me watching is Alan Alda as Republican Senator Arnold Vinick. He's a Republican I would vote for, preaching the common sense facets of Republican philosophy while doing his best to keep the religious right agenda at bay.

The current story arc is drawing many parallels to the 2004 election. Santos is a real military veteran from the first Iraq war who was photographed in a flight suit, but actually had business wearing one, while Vinick never actually served. But then Santos says into a reporter’s tape recorder "I voted for the Central American Trade Agreement before I voted against it."!!!

The producers are stringing us along, not telling us who will win this election. But I do predict a close election that comes down to one state. Lawrence O'Donnell, if you're reading this, Vinick is a much more interesting character, and offers the show a much better platform to explore the political issues that we'll face in the next three and a half years.

VINICK 2005 ALL THE WAY!

I know it's my job as your wife to crush your dreams, but I'm trying to let you live this one a little longer. Mostly because it's fun to watch you squirm and try to figure out a way that you can rationalize your candidate pulling out a last minute win.

Gee, sorta like the last election where I said, "We're all doomed! It'll never work!" and you said, "Just wait!"

I'll wait with you while you watch the last few episodes of your West Wing Fan career. :)

If my record of predicting election outcomes remains consistent, then Smitts can go ahead and order new marble floors for his Aspen vacation home. ;)

Don't make Vinnick lose his chance to run by giving it to the President's son in law. Let Santos and Vinnick walk in when President is having conversation with the Ambassador of China. Let Santos and Vinnick help the president. Show Democrats and Republicans can help together during crisis.

Santos and Vinnick are friends. Make it interesting by Santos win then turn around have Vinnick as Vice President if the President son in law runs for President. Make an example that Democrats can get along peacefully. Two parties can get things done when they work together.

Show real topics that are going on right now. Then have Santos and Vinnick solve the problem together. Send a message to our senate that comunication helps solve problems.Santos and Vinnick have knowledge.

Santos would make a great President. West Wing has always had a Democrat President. We need Republican but make it interesting to have a Democrat Vincint as a Vice President. Out rank Comander. West Wing is #1.Alan Alda has the knowledge about politics.
